I would like to use my teaching skills to education children, young people and adults about conservation and wildlife generally.

I would also relish an opportunity to develop my own skills further.

As well as the experience that I have in paid jobs and voluntary work, I have studied for an Open University Degree in Environmental Studies (graduating in April 2006) and I have both a chainsaw and First Aid qualification.

I am equally enthusiastic to paricipate in outdoor practical work, as I am office-based work, in this field.

I have been employed as a countryside ranger in seasonal posts since 2003.

The work has taken me from the South coast of England to Scotland and I have enjoyed every posting and made a number of good friends.

Up to 1996 (when I attended the Scottish Agricultural College followed by Edinburgh University) I was variously employed in the rural sector, both in farming and by a local corporate entertainment company.

My strengths are in practical management activities but enjoy the variety that comes with educational and special interest groups.

I have a good general knowledge of and interest in flora and fauna with plants and trees being my strongest areas. I also have a developing interest in grasses, invertebrates and marine life.

I have the usual package of additional skills required of a ranger such as IT competence, first aid training, friendly manner, etc.

I have CS30+31 certificate in Chainsaw maintenance, crosscutting and felling small trees. I have been on a 12 week adult education course run by the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust covering a wide aspect of topics. I possess a Basic First Aid and Emergency certificate. I have passed a computer course, European Computer Driving Licence, which is europeanally recognised.

I have helped many different organisations with volunteer work, including BTCV, Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, Derbyshire Conservation Volunteers and different “Friends of….” Groups.

I am looking to be employed in the conservation and wildlife sector. I have a real passion for the outdoors. I feel I have a lot to give and can utilise the skills I have gained and the passion I have.

I believe I would be an asset for any organisation.

I have 4 years office experience, one of which was spent in Somerset County Council's Rights of Way Department. I have been volunteering with the local Cub Pack for 4 years also and enjoy passing on my knowledge of the outdoors to the younger generation.

I really enjoy working outside all year round and not put off by the weather. I pick things up quite fast, and enjoy to teach people skills that i have learnt.

I travelled extensively and spent time with the Kalahari Bushmen in Africa, the Iban Indians of Sarawak South East Asia. And the Yolngu Aboriginal peoples of Northern Australia. These places provided me with specialist experience in exotic animals, endangered species and in Parrots and Parrot-like birds. It also gave me experience of dealing and living with other cultures and valuable people skills.

My other specialist area is music. I have successfully completed a sound recording and studio management course, recorded and produced CD’s of my own and other people’s music and have a small home studio. I produced two teaching guides for didgeridoo players and various teaching guides for schools on Aboriginal Culture.

I also successfully completed business training course with Inbiz covering customer care, income generation, purchasing, sales and marketing, communication, financial management and record keeping in 2005.

I also have experience providing workshops for special needs pupils, young offenders and within drug rehab centers.

I have a particular passion for habitat creation, practical conservation and freshwater ecosystem restoration. My ambition is to work in any of these fields reversing some of the damage that has been done to the UK’s natural resources.

Unfortunately, due to a flair-up of tendonitis in my wrists whilst chainsawing last year, a hand specialist recommended that I should avoid exposing myself to excessive periods of heavy manual work. Therefore my previous employer decided that I was no longer able to carry out my full range of duties and gave me a capability payment in December 2009.

Therefore, I am now looking for work with less emphasis on practical habitat management. Taking my experience and transferable skills into account, I consider myself suitable for fields of work such as environmental education, people engagement, ecology, Rights of Way, or training. However, I am quite flexible and am interested in all aspects of countryside management, conservation and environmental work.
