Understanding and caring for the environment has always been my passion; having started to develop ecological skills during my degree and furthering them through work experience, I am pursuing a career in ecology ideally specialising as a botanist. I am very much a self starter and enjoy successfully completing projects that I work on.

My experience and knowledge of fresh water and marine invertebrates has led to my invitation as a member of a taxonomic steering group for the Welsh Assembly Government, in which I recently undertook a UK Taxonomic Course Audit. During my final year of university I became involved in the Edinburgh City Council Ranger service volunteer ranger scheme. Through this scheme I filled the role of biodiversity officer responsible for survey and monitoring of plant and animal species in Edinburgh LNRs. A native of the Chilterns, his career began with a cement company restoring a quarry to a nature reserve and, as a shepherd. After more than a decade managing his own environmental communications consultancy, he was invited to undertake a new and different challenge as business manager with an IFA and training school.

Gary has worked with a variety of organisations including Quercus (Portugal), Butterfly Conservation, RSPB and the Bat Conservation Trust. His diverse experience and knowledge includes being a company director and charity trustee, fundraising (£1.5 Million+ raised), communications, marketing, business and conservation management.

Personal interests range from natural history, ecology and conservation issues to enjoying a variety of good books, history and Portugal – its culture, landscapes, wildlife and wine. A very new challenge has been to become an OU student with the ambition of studying for an Open Degree in Business Management & Environmental Policy.

I have recently completed a masters in Animal Behaviour at Manchester Metropolitan University and am currently looking for a career in conservation within the UK. I completed my degree in Animal Behaviour at the University of Liverpool and then worked as an intern for Global Vision International's South Africa Research Expedition. Here my duties included carrying out small mammal, reptile and invertebrate populations on a geographically isolated mountain. I was also responsible for training volunteers in survery techniques, data entry and report writing. After finishing my internship I was taken on as a field technician for by the Ground Squirrel Project of Nsmibia in the isolated Namib Desert. Here I conducted twice dailt behavioural observation sessions on the squirrels and monthly trapping sessions. I also conducted my own research into the relationship between vigilance and group size which I am currently writing up for publication.

Unfortunately, due to a flair-up of tendonitis in my wrists whilst chainsawing last year, a hand specialist recommended that I should avoid exposing myself to excessive periods of heavy manual work. Therefore my previous employer decided that I was no longer able to carry out my full range of duties and gave me a capability payment in December 2009.

Therefore, I am now looking for work with less emphasis on practical habitat management. Taking my experience and transferable skills into account, I consider myself suitable for fields of work such as environmental education, people engagement, ecology, Rights of Way, or training. However, I am quite flexible and am interested in all aspects of countryside management, conservation and environmental work.

My career aim is to become a head countryside ranger. I have worked for 'The Broads Authority' on the Norfolk broads for two seasons and have gained a good understanding of the professional role of a ranger, especially within the legislative aspect. I enjoyed the job greatly but I knew my future existed off the water, which is why I gained further practical knowledge volunteering for Whitlingham Country Park and then working internationally for farms.

Currently I am seeking an assistant or volunteer role directly under a ranger so i can put all my knowledge and practical skills to use. I am happy to help in any tasks required; maintenance, construction, education or project management as I more than fully aware of the vast range of working skills required to become a ranger.

I currently reside near Norwich but am more than happy, if not completely expecting, to relocate to your area.

I have recently completed a two-year Diploma in Environmental Conservation at the External Studies Department, Oxford University.

I have good IT skills including Geographical Information Systems (GIS), database management skills in SQL and MS Access, Excel, word and PowerPoint.

My academic background is in Geography, environmental management and rural development.

I have previously worked in commercial IT as a database/GIS manager. I am now looking for an opportunity to environmental conservation

I am currently a voluntary Park Ranger working for a local council. Work including path maintenance, public rights of way work, fence building and maintenance, newt mitigation work, pond clearing, tree planting and maintenance, survey work, bird box building, working with the public, dealing with trouble onsite and any future issues that should arise.

During my time at university I've learned to take samples of water and soil and analyze these in a laboratory.

I'm doing a degree at university of Worcester, BSc Major Environmental Management and Minor Geography. I am starting my final year of study in two months (09/2010).

I'm looking for a part-time job in the West Midlands region, esp. in Worcester area for now and/or a job for the summer. During the summer I will not be restricted to any specific geographical area.

I'm 22 years old and hard working and sociable and I have a keen interest in the environment.

My work experience includes project management, budget management, people management data management and analysis, database creation, report writing, GIS data handling and management, wildlife recording and monitoring, through to planning, people engagement and creation of marketing materials. This has been gained through my work at a Research Agency, BUPA, Save the Children, and also my recent employment at the Gwent Wildlife Trust where I have been working as a Project Ecologist.

A graduate with a Computing degree with loads of initiative and a friendly attitude. The ideal role would involve physically demanding role with lashings of ICT and technology.

• My degree involved using a range of geographical equipment at university, which is an area I am keen to develop. In order to improve my skills I have recently spent a week on a boat in Italy, involving the collection and analysis of data on the distribution, ecology, behaviour and acoustic of cetaceans.

• I was invited to join the Pops Incorporated UK Orchestra and play both violin and saxophone.

• The month of September ‘08 was spent travelling the cities in Europe with two friends. During the months February – March ’09 I travelled alone to New Zealand and Australia to fill a life long ambition.

• I can use computers and modern technology freely, scoring 50 wpm at an Agency Test and 80% on an Excel test.

I'm currently volunteering to improve my practical knowledge while also applying for training courses to improve my overall skill set. These include team leading and negotioating skills, these courses are run by Wigan & Leigh Council for Voluntary Service.

My background includes consultancy, utilities and environmental charities in the UK as well as conservation expeditions to Vietnam and Honduras.

While my main professional interest is in riparian mammals including otters and water voles I have worked on surveys and assessment for several protected species and have a good understanding of the legal and policy background within which British ecologists operate. I would be interested in work in conservation or research as well as commercial consultancy and am willing to consider any location.

I am looking for an opportunity for work based training that will lead to a change of career for me into Environmental Conservation Management.

As well as the course below I also do volunteer work for British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV) and I also work as part of the South Downs Volunteer Ranger Service.

I am currently doing a Plumpton College/BTCV Environmental Conservation NVQ Level 2 with Chainsaw Training Course two-days a week.

4 years experience as an assistant botanist with Royal Botanic Gardens Kew.

I have 6 months practical experience with Berks, Bucks & Oxford Wildlife Trust and I am currently volunteering with the National Trust in Cumbria. I see my career path as moving towards a science-based job in conservation, but I am keen to get a relevant job where I can develop my skills. I am computer literate and keen to learn.

I have six years experience into nature conservation, this includes both biological and geological conservation. But also work in site maintenance.

My goal is to work in animal welfare and conservation combined, and eventually i aim to work in africa with big cats, that is my ultimate passion. I have experience with farmstock, domestic and exotic animals, but have not yet been able to fully gain hands on experience with wild uk animals. I will be volunteering at the RSPCA centre in leicester over the summer which will give me more valuable experience.

I am looking for the kick i will need after finishing my degree in 2011, and would appreciate any advice or offers avaliable, thank you, Kezza Cat!!!

Having worked in management positions in various business sectors, I now wish to have a change in career, with a focus on using my skills for the good of the environment or charity, and not merely for profit orientated business.

I grew up in the Trossachs and as such have always had a passion for the countryside, and am now at a stage where I would like to spend less time office based, and perhaps have a more active role in a countryside based job.
